Why direct ownership?

Think about it. A holiday apartment is typically visited about 10-20% of the year. Thus, the rest of the year it stays empty unless you engage a professional holiday rental service to seek higher rate of occupation to cover some costs. Anyway, it is a formidable investment to buy a property for part-time use. There are also obligatory startup costs, normally in the range of 12-15% of purchase, and monthly running costs whether you use the apartment or not. And then you also have to consider your mortgage on top of this budget...

Thus, instead of buying a property many holidaymakers find an offer on AirBnB, Booking.com or similar portals. The downside is of course that it is an expensive solution in the log run, and your favoured location may not be available when you want it. You also lose the good feeling connected to owning your favourite holiday apartment, rather than just renting it!

For many years, buying a timeshare  - or the new more fancy label "holiday club" membership - was seen as a walkaround. The apartment is located on the ground floor relative to entrance and is equipped with 3 bedrooms, a flat-screen TV, BluRay player (and a large library of DVDs) and a fully equipped kitchen that provides guests with a fridge, an oven, a washing machine, a dryer, a dishwasher and a microwave. Fresh towels and bed linen are provided, and the apartment is extensively cleaned prior to each visit.
